Mary Robare
Choreographer

Mary Robare is a dance teacher, director and choreographer. As a performer she appeared on Broadway in Little Me, On Your Toes, Wind in the Willows and Singin’ in the Rain; in national tours of A Chorus Line, On Your Toes and Nunsense (reprising the role she originated in the first full-length production); in over a dozen television commercials, and in the MGM movie Those Lips, Those Eyes. She worked as an assistant choreographer to Randolyn Zinn on Broadway and at the New York City Opera, and served as a dancer, dance captain and assistant to the legendary Agnes de Mille during pre-production of her ballet, The Informer, which American Ballet Theatre premiered at the Metropolitan Opera House. The Apple Tree is the seventeenth show she has choreographed for Shenandoah University, the most recent being last year’s production of A Chorus Line, which she also directed. Other local choreography credits include seven shows for Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre (SSMT) and numerous middle and high school shows. Mary enjoys teaching dance to students of all ages at the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy (SCAA), where she also directs two performing dance ensembles. The recipient of an Outstanding Educator Citation from the Governor’s School of Virginia, she is an adjunct associate professor at Shenandoah University.
