R. SCOTT WILLIAMS is honored to be included in this 40th anniversary celebration. His exploits at SSMT date back to the 1990s, when he made his debut as the Duke in Big River, followed two years later by the King in Once Upon a Mattress (Hal Herman quipped, “You’ve been promoted”). Over the years he has returned to SSMT to play Jeff in Brigadoon, Mr. McAfee in Bye, Bye Birdie, and Senex in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Other local adventures include playing Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha, Axel in The Nerd, and Richard in Black Coffee, all at the late lamented Wayside Theatre. Scott has appeared with most of the professional theatres in DC, including five productions at The Shakespeare Theatre Co., three productions at Olney Theater, and four productions at the Washington Stage Guild. In NYC, his performance in Boys of a Certain Age earned a Best Lead Actor nomination at the NY Innovative Theatre Awards. Other NYC exploits include Julius Caesar, A Midsummer Night's Dream, She Stoops to Conquer, Three Musketeers, Taming of the Shrew, King Lear (twice) and Richard III (twice). Last summer he donned a corset and wig to portray Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest with Hudson Classical Theatre. Scott has given over 600 performances of Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center, and was honored to appear at the Supreme Court, singing Gilbert and Sullivan for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg's birthday party.
