Artist Biographies

Donnetta Lavinia Grays (Playwright) is the author of Where We Stand (Lucille Lortel, Drama League, AUDELCO, and ANTONYO award nominee), Last Night and the Night Before, Warriors Don’t Cry, Laid to Rest, and The Review or How to Eat Your Opposition. She is the recipient of The Whiting Award for Drama, Helen Merrill Playwright Award, The National Theater Conference’s Stavis Playwright Award, Lilly Award, Todd McNerney National Playwriting Award, and the Doric Wilson Independent Playwright Award. For television she has staffed on Spectrum’s Manhunt, FX’s Y: The Last Man and served as Executive Story Editor on Joe Vs. Carole for Peacock. She is currently co-producer on Seconds for AMC. Broadway acting credits include: The Skin of Our Teeth, In The Next Room, or the vibrator play and Well. Off-Broadway: Where We Stand (WP Theater/Baltimore Centerstage), Men on Boats (Playwrights Horizons/Clubbed Thumb) O, Earth (The Foundry Theatre), In the Footprint (The Civilians - as an Associate Artist), and Shipwrecked! Valerie Curtis-Newton (Director) Valerie is currently Head of Directing & Playwriting at the University of Washington’s School of Drama. Valerie is the founding Artistic Director of The Hansberry Project – an African American Theatre Lab. She has previously served as the Artistic Director of Hartford Connecticut's Performing Ensemble, Inc. and the Artistic Director for Seattle's Ethnic Cultural Theatre. Her national credits include work with The Guthrie Theatre, Playmakers Repertory Theatre, Intiman Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre, Mark Taper Forum/Center Theatre Group, Actors’ Theatre of Louisville, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop and Southern Repertory Theatre. 

Regina García (Scenic Design) Regina is a Chicago-based scenic designer from Puerto Rico. She has had long standing relationships with the Latinx Theatre’s renowned Teatros including Repertorio Español, the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, Teatro Vista and Pregones Theater. Recently completed projects include collaborations with The McCarter Theater, First Stage (Milwaukee), the Children's Theatre Center (Minneapolis), and Louisville Ballet. Regina is a Fellow of the NEA/TCG Career Development Program for Designers and the Princess Grace Awards, USA; a Regional Associate member of the League of Professional Theatre Women; and company member with Rivendell Theatre Ensemble and Boundless Theatre Company. She is the Head of the Scenic Design at The Theatre School, DePaul University, and a founding organizational member of La Gente: The Latinx Theatre Production Network.
