Mary Joy Nelson is thrilled to be a part of this hopeful story featuring the infectious Americana bluegrass music of Steve Martin and Edie Brickell. Ms. Nelson teaches voice in the Musical Theatre Certificate program and has previously taught Musical Theatre Showcase and Vocal Technique for Musical Theatre. As a vocal coach and music director, she has worked on numerous musical productions at the University of Kentucky Department of Theatre and Dance, including Once on This Island (2017), Hair (2015), A Christmas Carol (2013), and Spring Awakening (2013). Ms. Nelson has also worked with UK Opera Theatre children's choruses and children's operas (South Pacific 2015, Little Nemo in Slumberland 2014, Les Miserables 2013, Brundibar 2012, La Boheme 2007/2011/2022, The Little Prince 2004, and It's a Grand Night for Singing! 2004-2015).

Ms. Nelson is the executive director of InnOVATION Arts Academy, a performing arts training program for students in pre-K through high school. InnOVATION produces up to 5 full-scale musicals a year and has received numerous awards at the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. As a musical theatre specialist, Ms. Nelson has worked with many students to help them realize their Broadway dreams.
