Sarah Tilghman is a choral director at Norview High School. She has been teaching choral music for over 24 years ,Ms. Tilghman has been the choral director of the NHS choral program since 2016. Under her direction, Ms. Tilghman consistently has one the largest number of students to represent NPS at District II All District Chorus. Over the years, many of her students have been accepted into VA All- State Chorus and The Young Singers Project. Her choral ensembles consistently earn superior ratings at city and state assessments..
Ms. Tilghman reinstated the TRI M Music honor society at NHS.
She currently serves as the District II VCDA choral Assessment host. In 2024, Ms. Tilghman was recognized by her peers across the region earning the District II VCDA Lifetime Choral Music Educator Achievement Award.
Her students have performed throughout the school division and local community events to include: school board performances, faith based partners, USN retirement ceremonies, VA Symphony performances,local hospitals, and other community venues.
Ms. Tilghman is also an instructor of the MELT program (Music Educators Leadership in Training), at NHS; one of the only HS in the division that offers this program. Through this program,many of her students go on to study music in college.She mentors several new teachers and music educators across the district.
Ms. Tilghman earned her both her Bachelors and Masters in Music education from Syracuse University, with a vocal performance minor and is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota. In 2021 she earned an ED Specialist degree in leadership and supervision from ODU. She has been serving as the NHS Fine arts department chair since 2018. Finally, she is the NHS PBIS Lead teacher coach facilitating activities for students, parents, faith-based partners and staff to promote a positive school culture.
