Quick Facts about Kids in Tech

  • “Kids in Tech is committed to building a brighter future by providing today's youth with the skills and opportunities they need to succeed in a tech-driven world.” - Olu Ibrahim, CEO
  • Launched our first After-School Tech Club in 2016.
  • Our mission; With early access and exposure to STEAM and technology through our After-School Tech Clubs, we engage and inspire kids to become creators and future leaders in science, technology, engineering, math, and more.
  • Our vision: We envision a new future where every child is equipped with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities, exploring the technology that surrounds us, becoming creators and builders of technological innovations and of their own futures.
  • One of our Core Values is "Inclusion & Innovation." We recognize the importance and value of bringing together individuals and their different perspectives. We believe that real innovation comes when all voices and backgrounds are included.

Since our founding in 2016, Kids in Tech has excited, educated, and empowered hundreds of students from low-income households to acquire the skills and confidence in technology through our free interactive after-school programs. Our After School Tech Clubs provide an entry point in STEM concepts, fields, and practices for low-income youth. We intentionally partner with schools and youth organizations to bring our Clubs to students for free.

We focus on engaging students both in and out of the classroom. In the classroom, STEM concepts are taught through a relevant, multi-disciplinary, and hands-on curriculum. Exposure to real-world application of STEM concepts happens outside of the classroom through guest speakers and field trips. Through partnerships with businesses and higher education organizations, students interact with professionals who are innovating and working on cutting-edge technology. The program culminates in a final presentation in which students showcase the skills they have learned.

The After-School Tech Clubs are Kids in Tech’s flagship program, providing free STEM education to kids from low-income households. Students, ages 8 to 14, gather in small groups after school right at their school site in which professional educators and skilled volunteers guide them in fun, hands-on technology learning activities. Our After-School Tech Clubs are run by local high schoolers, college students, educators, and volunteers.

Our students get a say in what they learn and the sessions follow their interests - which range from coding to audiovisual production to web pages to wearable tech to robotics, and more. While each club is different, we follow an instructional curriculum established by Kids in Tech at the beginning.
