History in Harmony is the ISO’s Education and Community Engagement Department’s series of multimedia programs that explore history through live music and storytelling. Created by Amy Kniffen (viola), Native American Voices features ISO musicians and narrator Mike Pace in a program celebrating contemporary Native voices through student compositions from the Lakota Music Project Composition Academy and Jerod Impichchaahachaaha’ Tate’s Moonstrike. Together, music and storytelling invite audiences to explore Indigenous traditions while building understanding and bridging cultures. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 14 at Conner Prairie; Nov. 15 at IU Bloomington, in conjunction with the First Nations Center; Nov. 16 at Butler University, Eidson-Duckwell Hall, 7:30 p.m.; and Nov. 17 at UIndy, Christel DeHaan Performing Arts Center, 7 p.m.

Olivia y el Violin is part of the ISO’s Education and Community Engagement Play Me a Story series, which combines children’s literature with live music to spark imagination and connection.  Narrated in English and Spanish by ISO percussionist Pedro Fernandez, the program features Amy Kniffen performing music from Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires alongside the charming story by Sylvina Rocha. Young audiences will explore the violin, discover the music of Argentina, and enjoy a hands-on instrument petting zoo. Created especially for children and families, this special performance on Nov. 2 at Riley Children’s Hospital brings the joy, comfort, and wonder of live music to patients and their loved ones.

Jennifer Christen (oboe) and Alistair Howlett (flute) are looking forward to performing with Ronen Chamber Ensemble for two separate programs this fall.
