Welcome

I am thrilled to welcome you to our May Hybrid-Concert.  Like everything this year, this concert will be a little different.  We are excited to host a limited socially distanced audience in the majestic Temple Theatre,  as well as being able to enjoy the spectacular performance virtually.  Tonight’s performance, “A Musical Journey” will bring us together in spirit, even though we cannot all be together physically.

The quality of this performance will live up to the extraordinary standards that we have come to expect from the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra.

The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra is an organization that enriches the community through the beauty and power of symphonic music. We strive to enhance the vitality of our region and contribute to economic and cultural growth.  In good times and challenging times, the SBSO is committed to fulfilling this mission.   Not many cities the size of Saginaw can support a symphony orchestra and we are grateful for the ongoing support of this community.  To give back to those who have supported us, we have been very active even during this pandemic.  Over the summer, we hosted 5 free  “pop-up” concerts in Saginaw and Bay City, surprising and delighting people with short musical performances.  We have supported the Saginaw Youth Orchestra to instill the love of symphonic music in the next generation.  We also give back in other ways. Most recently, members of the Saginaw Symphony Association contributed personally to the “Build a Backpack” program to provide necessary school supplies to children in foster care and through our Culinary Concert Event, we will be able to give back 10% of the net proceeds to Saginaw's East Side Soup Kitchen.

These have been difficult times and the SBSO needs your financial support more than ever.  Much of our operating revenue comes from ticket sales.  With no live concerts since February, ticket revenues have plummeted resulting in a significant hardship.  We ask that you donate to the orchestra to help offer virtual programming like the concert you will enjoy this evening.  Making a donation to the orchestra is easy- just go to https://www.saginawbayorchestra.com/donate/ .   Please donate what you can so that we can continue to bring you the music that you love.

As president of the Saginaw Symphony Association, I offer my thanks to our hard-working staff, our Board and committee members, our donors and sponsors, and especially to our audience for supporting the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra and symphonic music in our region.

We all look forward to the days when we can all be together again at the beautiful Temple Theatre, but until then, please have a wonderful evening!

Sincerely,

Deborah Huntley

Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra Board President
