It is a privilege to welcome the Martha Graham Dance Company to The Purchase PAC. For one hundred years, this extraordinary company has carried forward the legacy of Martha Graham, an artist who fundamentally changed how we think about movement, storytelling, and the expressive power of the human body.

Graham believed that dance could do more than entertain—it could confront the world around us. Her work often responded directly to the social and political currents of her time, exploring questions of power, identity, conflict, and resilience. Though decades have passed since these works were created, the urgency and emotional force remain strikingly immediate.

That enduring relevance is part of what makes Graham’s work so remarkable. Her work reminds us that art can be both a mirror and a catalyst, helping us process our present moment while imagining what might come next.
