Horton Foote is a singular voice. There is no playwright I know who gets so close to what life actually feels like. His dialogue can appear at first glance like something akin to small talk, but the techtonic plates that are shifting underneath each moment are world altering. There is no one else like him, and nothing else that says so much in the spaces between things. I feel lucky to have been allowed to wrangle with his work, and to sit with what it has to say about home, about America, about family, life and death. I find that I want to be quiet and to let Horton Foote do the talking with his play. I hope it brings you in mind of your own Bountiful and of the people you know who are making the trip alongside you.
