Beloved by so many since its debut in 1950, Guys and Dolls is the quintessential American musical, filled with fantastic music, dance, and story. With this production, we particularly wanted to celebrate the dimensionality and nuance of the characters. At no point were we interested in reducing the characters to stereotypical “guys” and “dolls,” but rather mine for the depth of humanity present in each character’s journey.
At the heart of this story, we explore how love changes us. It is essential that the love stories in Guys and Dolls ring true–that we see Sarah, Sky, Nathan, and Adelaide take a risk in pursuit of love. They step outside their well-worn paths for the road less travelled. We witness people from disparate worlds build bridges across their differences and find common ground. May we all experience the kind of love that takes us by surprise, transforms our hearts, and opens our eyes to see the world anew.
