When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there’s more to this art form than playing pretend. Will Nina be able to let go and find the raw joy of air guitar? Following Nina’s mission to shred or be shredded, Airness is an exuberant reminder that everything we need to Rock is already inside us.

I’m always so excited to discover a world that I know nothing about.
I think that’s why I like documentaries so much. I’ll watch a documentary on anything--stamp collecting, whittling, worm farming--the more specific the interest, the more I enjoy it.
I think it’s chiefly because of two things:
There’s something about watching people engage in their passion that is profoundly uplifting and hopeful. It takes us out of the routine of our day-to-day worries and reminds us that there’s more to life than work and bills and stress. There’s joy.
And then there’s community--the community of people who share a passion. Who find each other in the smallest of niches. Who support and conspire with one another to attain that joy. Who remind us that we’re part of something bigger.
These are the people you will meet today. A group of people from very different backgrounds who share a passion that keeps them connected to joy: air guitar.
And the only way to truly attain that joy (airness), is to fully embrace what others might think is silly. To not care what you look like when you’re doing it. And to not give a damn about what anyone else thinks about it.
Sounds like a pretty good way to go through life, right?
