Family. It’s a word that can mean so many different things to each of us. Families
come in all sizes and combinations. Sometimes they are related to us by blood,
sometimes by circumstance. But no matter how we define our families, certain
things almost always seem to be true about them. They are made of people whose mere presence can bring us joy - and sometimes exasperation. They can drive us crazy one day and can wrap us in blankets of security the next. We close our eyes
and remember those in our family who made us laugh, those who made us cry, and those who could sometimes make us do both at the same time. To me, family at its core means love, people who might not always approve of our choices but who ultimately accept us as we are – warts and all – and who are so deeply embedded in our hearts that we realize, in the end, that we are who we are in large part because they are there. I hope this brief visit into the lives of Nick, Aida, Frank, Emma, Nunzio and Caitlin will bring you joy, maybe jostle some memories, and fill you with love and warmth from our Barter family to yours. Happy holidays!
