Executive Director's Welcome

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

When it comes to giving a show its title, sometimes it's pretty easy and clear, especially if the show is based on a novel or film. But when a completely original idea sparks a show, you never know what title will emerge.

Two odd titles that that come to mind are MOOSE MURDERS - which opened and closed on the same night in 1983, and TEETH -  based on a 2007 horror film - lasted a few months longer when it opened in 2024.

And then there's today's presentation: URINETOWN! While the title makes the show a bit harder to sell, this Tony Award winner of BEST ORIGINAL SCORE and BEST BOOK awards succeeded in spite of its name, running just shy of 300 performances from September 2001 to January of 2004.

While planning the season, I always try to find a balance between new and old, comedy and drama, musical etc..  URINETOWN is a satirical gem, mocking not only the Broadway musical itself, but everything from capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics.

As the weather starts to warm and the days begin to lengthen, we have much more on tap for you here. The final four shows in our main stage season are: Arthur Miller's A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, ANASTASIA, The Musical, MY MOTHER AND THE MICHIGAN/OHIO WAR, and GUYS AND DOLLS. I hope we'll see you here for them all.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR JOINING US!
