Welcome

Welcome to our 33rd annual Summer Youth Theatre production...an event that always puts a smile on my face!

Just before school got out in June, the amazing group of young people involved in this production started rehearsing, building and painting scenery, helping with costumes and lighting, selling ads, etc., and will be "running" the show. This program is very important to all of us at Curtain Call. Helping prepare another generation is exciting and, for most of us, reminds us of our beginnings.

My first summer theatre experience as an actor was 50 years ago in the summer of 1973 and I am still friends with several members of that production. We know that theatre friends are the best and are happy to share in the joy of creating these lasting relationships! We know that the many skills developed over the course of the summer are invaluable. Theatre is a collaborative art, and much like organized sports, teaches the value of teamwork, the ability to stand in front of an audience, d and much more - all skills helpful in life whether pursuing a career in the theatre or not.

To the families of our young participants - THANK YOU for supporting them this summer. We know that it can be challenging to fit the rigorous rehearsal schedule into what is often a more laid back summer routine. We hope you all appreciate the work your kids have put into this great show.

And great shows are what we work on all year. Beginning next month, we'll kick off our new season which includes the area premiere of the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, BEAUTIFUL, THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, and 10 other full-scale productions. Our entire season (nearly 200 performances!) is listed in this program. We hope you'll come back and see some of the shows we have on tap. Our five, seven and 10-ticket FLEX PASSES, offer significant savings (and restaurant discounts), and more, making regular attendance here very reasonable indeed.

For now, sit back, relax and enjoy your time with THE ADDAMS FAMILY!

Sincerely,

Lou Ursone

SYT President's Letter

Dear Friends and Families,

I am overjoyed to welcome you all to The Addams Family, SYT’s 33rd production! I’m so excited for you to see this incredible performance.

If you’re new here, welcome to Curtain Call’s Summer Youth Theatre! We are a community of performers and techies ranging from fourth grade to age twenty-one who spend our summers at Curtain Call putting on a full-scale musical and learning about the process of theatre. For many, SYT is one of their first times on stage and we truly believe we’ve built an amazing community to learn and feel comfortable growing in. Although it is an educational youth production, the show is rehearsed and produced in a very professional manner, as you will see from this spectacular show.

Choosing The Addams’ Family was a unanimous decision by the board. The family represented in this story is, as the song goes, “mysterious and spooky,” but at the same time, cherishes the oddness of all their members. The same could be said about SYT.  When you become a member of the SYT community, you are recognized as an individual - with all your quirks and gifts - who plays a part in creating something extraordinary. That’s why the first time The Addams Family was spoken in a meeting, there was an immediate feeling that it was the right choice. Through the show’s messages about community and acceptance, this cast and crew has been connected on a whole other level. The connections we’ve created this year are unlikely to disappear, and we hope that shows through this performance.

I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the handful of people who made this production possible. Because, “Full Disclosure,” without their hard work, the show you are about to see would not have been possible. I would like to start by thanking our incredible director, Joel Fenster. This fantastic, dark world would not have come to life without your vision and creativity. We were so lucky to have you back this summer to help create and execute this beautiful story. To our lovely music director, Matt Stolfi, and our stunning choreographer, Jenny Silverman, thank you for bringing your talent, knowledge, and passion to this show. Each six-part harmony and kick line would never be heard or seen without the amount of effort you brought into each rehearsal. Thank you to our associate producers, and SYT Board Advisors, Grady Dennis and Lauren Gulliver Travers, for always being there for this cast and crew and making us feel comfortable. Thank you to our assistant producer, and friend, Eli Foodman, for being so involved and dedicated this summer. A big thanks to our assistant director, Justin Villard. Although we may have all wanted you in the show initially, we saw just how talented your directing skills were this year. Thank you to Costume Designer Megan Latte Morello for going through each piece of white, grey, or beige clothing in the costume closet and creating a sea of black and white through your costuming. I don’t know what we would do without you. Thank you to our Set Designer Marty Marchitto, our Lighting Designer Scott Borowka, our Tech Director Wayne Yeager (and his faithful dog, Gretel), Productions Assistant Meghan Connelly and Jamie LaJoie, and all the volunteers who helped build and paint sets for truly bringing the Addams House to the Kweskin stage. Thank you to our incredible stage management team, Halle Hart, Sam Millette, Lana Busch, and Jake Sperling. The four of you brought communication, preparedness, and of course, entertainment throughout the entire rehearsal process. A huge thank you to the SYT Board 2022-23, especially to our seniors who are preparing for the next chapters of their lives. Shout-out to Grace Huber who has been the most wonderful Vice-President I could ask for. But I can’t do a thank you without being forever grateful to Brian Bianco, Curtain Call’s Education Director. Being able to work with you throughout the year is such a privilege as you bring so much passion, knowledge, and wisdom to the board and the program. Lastly, thank you to our executive producer, Lou Ursone. We couldn’t do any of this without your unending support for our program. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do what we love.

I am so lucky to be part of this community and to have the opportunity to be such a big part of it. Curtain Call truly is my second home and my safe space. To be here all summer is a dream, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year. Thank you to this cast and crew for being so welcoming and loving and for fostering a community of growth and comfort for everyone. And to all of you reading, thank you for supporting these young artists in their journeys! Being able to perform is such a joy for us all, and knowing that we have the love and support is so important. Thank you to you all. With that, please enjoy The Addams Family!
