Señores, Señores, because with soldiers
yes, toreros can get along;
For the pleasures, for the pleasure
they fight!
The circus is full, it is a celebrating day!
The circus is full from top to bottom;
The crowd goes mad,
the crowd is arguing
with great deal!
Exclamations, shouts and noises
Push to the breaking point!
Because it is the celebration of courage!
It is the celebration of the brave of heart!
Let's go! En guarde! Let's go!
Let's go! Let's go! Ah!
(Refrain ×2)
Toreador, en guarde! Toreador!
Toreador!
And contemplate well, yes contemplate
as you fight
that a dark eye is watching you,
and that love is waiting for you,
Toreador, love, love is waiting for you!
All at once, we are silent,
we are silent,... Oh, what is happening?
No more shouts, this is it!
No more shouts, this is it!
The bull is rushing
while jumping out of its fence!
He is rushing in! He's entering, striking!
A horse is falling,
Dragging down a picador.
"Ah! Bravo! Toro!" the crowd is calling,
The bull goes on... he comes...
he comes, striking once more!
While shaking his banderillas ,
full of rage, he runs!...
the circus is full of blood!
We flee... we pass the gates!
It's your turn now!
Let's go! En guarde! Let's go! Let's go! Ah!
(Refrain ×2)
Love! Love! Love!
Toreador, Toreador, Toreador!
The Last Rose of Summer
Music by Benjamin Britten
Poetry by Thomas Moore
’Tis the last rose of summer left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions are faded and gone;
No flow’r of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes, or give sigh for sigh.
So soon may I follow, when friendships decay,
And from love’s shining circle the gems drop away!
When true hearts lie wither’d, and fond ones are flown,
Oh! who would inhabit this bleak world alone?
Prayer
Music by Morten Lauridsen
Poetry by Dana Gioia
Echo of the clocktower, footstep
in the alleyway, sweep
of the wind sifting the leaves.
Jeweller of the spiderweb, connoisseur
of autumn's opulence, blade of lightning
harvesting the sky.
Keeper of the small gate, choreographer
of entrances and exits, midnight
whisper traveling the wires.
Seducer, healer, deity or thief,
I will see you soon enough—
in the shadow of the rainfall,
in the brief violet darkening a sunset—
but until then I pray watch over him
as a mountain guards its covert ore
and the harsh falcon its flightless young
The New Suit
Music by Ricky Ian Gordon
Text by Lynn Nottage
To answer your question,
I wear my father’s suit.
It is old, it is worn, it is fading,
But this plain black fabric is my most fav’rite of all.
When I wear, it reminds me I live ev’ryday
With a relationship to my ancestors and God.
I wear my father’s suit everywhere
Like prayer.
Psalm 23 from CHICHESTER PSALMS
Adonai ro-i, lo echsar.
Bin'ot deshe yarbitseini
Al mei m'nuchot y'nachaleini,
Naf'shi y'shovev,
Yan'cheini b'ma'aglei tsedek,
L'ma'an sh'mo.
Gam ki eilech
B'gei tsalmavet,
Lo ira ra,
Ki Atah imadi.
Shiv't'cha umishan'techa
Hemah y'nachamuni.
Adonai ro-i, lo echsar.
Psalm 23 from CHICHESTER PSALMS
Adonai is my shepherd; I shall not want.
God gives me repose in green meadows,
And guides me over calm waters.
God will revive my spirit
and direct me on the right path –
for that is God’s way.
Though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no harm, for You are at my side.
Your staff and Your rod comfort me
