Welcome to the JLC!

Thank you for joining us for our 2022-23 season. I am thrilled to serve as the new Executive Director of the James Lumber Center for Performing Arts (JLC). As a longtime presenter of arts and culture, I’m excited for the opportunity to share with you my joy for the performing arts, which bring so much to our world. Through the arts, we create community, express ourselves in new ways, challenge our thinking about society, and escape reality to laugh and be entertained.

Like the rest of the world, the performing arts were greatly impacted by the pandemic, and we are still in recovery. At this time, the JLC is at 75% capacity. We appreciate your flexibility as we navigate new guidelines and changes. We will do everything we can to make the journey as safe and comfortable as possible for everyone.

Since you’re here, you know what a hidden gem the JLC is, bringing world class performances to Lake County. Please help us spread the word by inviting your friends, colleagues and neighbors to a show! There are many wonderful performances, from national touring acts to showcases featuring our very own students. We believe there's something for everyone at the JLC, and we hope you do, too.

I look forward to meeting with you and singing along as we welcome Lisa Rock and her incredible four octave range voice and six-piece band back to our stage. She is proudly celebrating her 12th anniversary for the longest running Carpenters tribute in North America. Enjoy the show!

Warm regards,

Alisa Baum, Executive Director

Lisa Rock in Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters

Lisa Rock honors the legacy of the Carpenters.

Considered one of the best vocalists of all time, Karen Carpenter captured the attention of a generation with the surprisingly deep material of her unabashedly catchy pop music. Singer and playwright Lisa Rock has compiled a moving tribute to the music and life of Carpenter, and brings it to the stage with her 6-piece backing band. Dedicated to re-creating the true sound of The Carpenters, Rock and her band showcase some of the most memorable songs of the 70s including "We’ve Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays" and of course "Close to You."
