About the Concert

The 2024 Heifetz Celebrity Series kicks off in grand style this Friday night with performances by the illustrious Heifetz faculty artists.  Artistic Director Nicholas Kitchen kicks it off with our traditional “season opener;” his own arrangement of an exuberant Bach Sinfonia based on the infectious Prelude to the Violin Partita in E Major….you’ll recognize it the minute you hear it!  It will be followed by the first of our “season of quintets:”  Felix Mendelssohn's String Quintet No. 1 in A major, Op. 18, featuring violin and Heifetz alum--turned-teacher Itamar Zorman, joined by fellow faculty members Yoojin Jang, violists Caeli Smith (another Heifetz alum!) and Luther Warren, and cellist (and yes, Heifetz alum!) Yi Qun Xu.  The second half of the program will be devoted to Antonín Dvořák’s beloved Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, Op. 81, featuring an all-star constellation of violinists Kyung Sun Lee, and JMU’s Wanchi, violist Michael Klotz, cellist David Geber, and pianist Peipei Song.
