About Acheley East + "Sushinanigans"

Acheley East was granted a wish to go to Walt Disney World in July. The magic of Disney, visiting LEGOLAND, and the rides at the theme parks were among his favorite wish experiences. The 13-year-old has battled leukemia and chose a Disney wish because he plans on being a professional cartoon artist. His talent and aspirations made Acheley the perfect child to collaborate with Sing Me a Story, a nonprofit that creates music inspired by the creative stories of children in need. Sing Me a Story handed Acheley’s story off to composer Mitchell T. Gilly, who turned it into a piece of music for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. 


The composition was inspired by Acheley's story, "The Adventures of Guac and Cheese." Acheley's story follows two Squishmallows, Guac and Cheese, and their dog Fluffy in their quest for sushi. They hop on a plane to Japan where all sorts of shenanigans unfold. 


The composition, aptly named "Sushinanigans," will be premiered by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra during the KSO’s annual 2024 Symphony on the Square performance. The story, featuring coordinating illustrations by Acheley, can be found at singmeastory.org.
