Welcome from our Concertmaster

Dear CM&F friends and fellow lovers of music,

I could not be more excited to kick off our 2021-2022 Merchant & Gould Concertmaster series with Tour of Italy. During the past year and a half, I, perhaps like you, often thought of all the beautiful places I would love to travel to but simply couldn't. The country most on my mind? Italy, with all its culture, its traditions, the impeccable food, the gorgeous scenery, and of course the opera houses. So in this evening's program, we're going there: you and I are headed to the sound worlds of great Italian composers like Ennio Morricone and Niccolo Paganini. And when the composers aren't Italian—like Fritz Kreisler and Felix Mendelssohn—the connection is the same as mine, they just loved Italy, and the latter notoriously nicknamed his final Symphony "The Italian" after composing it in the Sicilian countryside.

We hope you enjoy our tour of this truly appassionato music, and please be sure to stay for a moment after tonight's performance! My KSO colleagues and I would absolutely love to see you.

Warmly,

William Shaub, Concertmaster
