A MESSAGE FROM SEAN DORSEY

I am thrilled to welcome you to THE LOST ART OF DREAMING. We are so glad you’re here. And WE are so glad to be here: many thanks to American Dance Festival for co-commissioning this work! YOU have been in our hearts and minds these last 2+ years as we created this work. YOU are precious and irreplaceable, and YOU have an important place on this planet and in the future.

THE LOST ART OF DREAMING is:
a spell
a danced invocation
a loving invitation to
reclaim, remember, conjure, co-create, and manifest
OUR BIRTHRIGHT:
joy, pleasure, well-being, freedom, love, connection, liberation.

Transgender and gender-nonconforming people are under violent attack across the country right now, and are living in a state of emergency: we need our allies to speak up, speak out and take concrete action to defend Trans youth and all Trans people. This year alone, over **560** anti-Transgender bills have been introduced in legislatures across the country, seeking to 'exterminate' Trans people and our access to healthcare, basic rights protections, and freedom of expression in performance. There are TEN anti-trans bills being considered by the NC legislature right now.

Here in North Carolina, you can take action at www.ncisready.org. You can also directly contact Duke University leadership and demand accessible, well-marked all-gender bathrooms in every campus building NOW. Gendered bathrooms keep Trans people out of public places -- including ADF and including Duke University.
After tonight’s performance, we invite you to visit our website, where a cornucopia of resources and activities await you.  THE LOST ART OF DREAMING webpage includes dance films, The Dictionary Of Joy and Pleasure, The Futurist Pledge, Postcards From The Future, and more!

And tell your friends: we’re touring THE LOST ART OF DREAMING across the US for the next 2 years! Look for our next tour stops on our website.

Tonight we declare together:
DREAMING IS OUR BIRTHRIGHT!
