Maeve Gilchrist | Pine Tree Flyers | David Coffin | Jeremy Kittel | Liz Carroll | Rasa String Quartet | Hannah Read | Logan Coale
Join us for this year’s nautical adventure as we traverse the Atlantic Ocean from shore to shore. We present the firepower of the Pine Tree Flyers, a quartet from Portland, Maine that has sourced and reignited repertoire from the state of Maine. We welcome back local Sea Shanty star David Coffin as well as the Rasa String Quartet, who will be collaborating with Maeve Gilchrist along with sharing some sea-themed repertoire from the Western Classical canon. Returning for a second night, US-based Scottish fiddler and singer Hannah Read shares her take some traditional songs accompanied by renowned bassist Logan Coale, while our artist in residence Jeremy Kittel teams up with Artistic Director Maeve Gilchrist for a rare duo performance where both musicians draw on their traditional Scottish music roots.
In honorable memory of our founder Brian O’Donovan, we have commissioned a new composition by internationally acclaimed Irish fiddler and composer Liz Carroll featuring the Rasa String Quartet with orchestration by Jeremy Kittel. Brian founded this festival on the belief that Celtic Music should be utilized as a platform to connect with other cultures as a source of good in the world. As well as presenting world-class traditional Celtic music, our festival is committed to creating space for the evolution of the genre. Tonight’s premiere of this new ocean-inspired composition will honor Brian and manifest what this festival is all about. Don’t miss this salty musical feast!
The artists will announce the program from the stage.
