Program Note

The theme of my recital, Travel with the Heart, traces a journey through love, emotion and reflection. Each set explores how music expresses different stages and perspectives of the heart.

The program begins with Handel’s “Io già t’amai,” a Baroque aria that blends elegance with heartfelt sincerity. It continues with selections from Schumann’s Dichterliebe, op. 48, where poetry and melody portray love’s progression from joy to quiet sorrow.

The English set, Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel, follows a wanderer who discovers that the search for beauty mirrors the journey of the heart.

After intermission, Mozart’s “Un’aura amorosa” offers calm and tenderness before turning to the expressive colors of Duparc’s French songs, which depict love and longing through lush harmonies.

The Italian set features Bellini’s “La ricordanza” and Giordano’s “Amor ti vieta,” two contrasting views of love, one nostalgic and the other passionate. The recital closes with the Spanish set, where León’s “Algún día” and Ponce’s “Estrellita” bring warmth and sentimental reflection to the program’s end.

Together, these works show how music carries the listener through the many emotional landscapes of the heart.
