The theme of my senior recital is “The Heart of a Woman,” which was inspired by the title of the third song in H. Leslie Adams’ song cycle, Nightsongs: 6 Songs on Texts by Afro-American Poets. I believe that in our hearts, we store every experience that has shaped us into the people we are constantly becoming. There is so much power in the passion, emotion and vulnerable honesty that comes with telling these stories. It is a privilege to be able to do the thing I love most and to share it with people I love. Thank you so much for attending my recital! I want to especially thank my parents and my big sister, Natalie. I wouldn’t be where I am without their constant love, support and encouragement. My parents have worked incredibly hard to give me the chance to follow my own dreams, and I owe them everything. I also want to give a big thank you to Dr. Naumenko, who has been a constant support system for these last four years. Thank you for your unwavering faith in me. You have been a mentor and a positive presence in my life. I’ve learned so much from you and I am just so grateful for you. These past four years here at Shenandoah Conservatory passed so quickly, and I will truly miss seeing the same friendly faces every day. I hope that this recital can be the start of a heartfelt goodbye.
Lourdes Rodriguez is from the studio of Fotina Naumenko. This recital is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Voice).
