Image for St. Nicholas
By Conor McPherson

Undermain Theatre is excited to present the live production of St. Nicholas, our most widely viewed and nationally acclaimed streaming production last season. The live production has been specially created with live performance in mind, with a sound and lighting scape to enhance Conor McPherson’s amazing story.

A chilling tale of vampires just in time for Halloween written by Conor McPherson, acclaimed author of Girl From the North Country currently opening on Broadway. A cynical theater critic falls for a beautiful young actress. On a drunken bender one weekend he pursues her to London, where he falls in with a coven of modern-day vampires. Is it a drunken fairytale or his own vision of a higher truth? Storytelling at its spooky best comes to life in this haunting solo story performed by Bruce DuBose, the voice of Marcus from Borderlands, the Boomer from Gears of War, Thor from Smite and King Neptune from One-Piece.

Mr. DuBose will direct the live version.  The on-demand stream is the virtual  version directed by UMT Company member, Blake Hackler.

By special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

*This play contains profanity and descriptions of adult situations.

St. Nicholas runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

Director's Notes

Conor McPherson is one of the great playwrights of our time.  The current broadway production of his musical collaboration with Bob Dylan, Girl From the North Country is a testament to his place in world drama beyond his Irish origins.  In St. Nicholas we find a narrator on the run from his native land thrust into a supernatural world. We may find inspiration for this otherworldly setting in the tradition of Samhain, a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition.  In modern times, Samhain (a Gaelic work pronounced "SAH-win") is usuallly celebrated from October 31 to November 1 to welcome in the harvest and usher in "the dark half of the year."  Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spiritual world break down during Samhain, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld.
