Remi Wörtmeyer
Artistic Director
Born in Adelaide, Australia, Mr. Wörtmeyer is a multi-award-winning choreographer, dancer, designer (of décor, costumes and fashion) and teacher who trained in classical dance at The Australian Ballet School. 

Formerly a principal with Dutch National Ballet, he also danced with The Australian Ballet and American Ballet Theatre and guested internationally, dancing on the world’s greatest stages including Sydney Opera House, New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, The London Coliseum and Sadler’s Wells, St Petersburg’s Alexandrinsky Theatre, New National Theatre Tokyo, the Grand Theatres of Shanghai and Hong Kong, National Centre for the Performing Arts Bejing, Palais de Congrès and Théâtre du Châtelet Paris.

 Mr. Wörtmeyers one-act and evening-length choreographic works include creations for Dutch National Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Benois de la Danse, and a bespoke pas de deux – Penumbra – for Roberto Bolle and Melissa Hamilton (Arena di Verona, 2022). Remi’s ballet Significant Others (on the subject of artists Sonia and Robert Delauney) headlined Atlanta Ballet’s spring season earlier this year.

Remi’s fashion and sculptural works have been exhibited by galleries in Amsterdam, Sydney and Berlin. His collaboration with haute couturier Ronald van der Kamp saw him debut his own high-end handmade sculptural jewellery as part of RVDK’s spring/summer 2023 collection at Paris Fashion Week.

Mr. Wörtmyer was named Artistic Director of BalletMet in June 2024 where he will continue to choreograph new works for companies both domestically and abroad.

 

Sue Porter
Executive Director
Sue Porter was named BalletMet’s Executive Director in August 2015. Sue is an attorney who started her legal career as an associate attorney and later a partner specializing in labor and employment law with Schottenstein, Zox & Dunn LPA (now Ice Miller LLP). In her over 30 years as an attorney, she has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer for Business in Chambers USA, as a Best Lawyer in America, an Ohio Super Lawyer, a Top 50 Women Lawyer in Ohio and a Top 25 Women Lawyer in Columbus. She also received a 40 under Forty Award and a Top Executive Women award from Business First. In 2018, she was recognized as a Smart Woman Award Honoree in the Progressive Woman category.  Sue was a long time Board member with BalletMet and a number of other not-for-profit organizations including Dance/USA where she chaired the mid-size company Manager’s Council.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Ohio Mutual Insurance Group, Ohio Citizens for the Arts and the Columbus Bar Foundation. Sue and her husband, Mike Sayre, have three children and live in New Albany.

 

Olivia Clark Omardien
Rehearsal Director, BalletMet 2 Associate Director
Olivia Clark is originally from Bellville, Ohio. She received her ballet training in Columbus, Ohio as part of the BalletMet Dance Academy Pre-Professional Program, where she was recipient of the Lucy Porter Scholarship. Her dance career included work with Festival Ballet of Rhode Island, Nashville Ballet and BalletMet, where she was a company member for 18 seasons. With BalletMet she performed roles such as Mina in David Nixon’s Dracula, the Solo Girl in George Balanchine’s Rubies, the principal role in Maurice Hines’ High C, Clara in The Nutcracker, Fortuna in Dwight Rhoden’s Carmina Burana, Autumn in James Kudelka’s The Four Seasons, and the title role in Amadeo Amodio’s Carmen among many others. She was also in the original cast of James Kudelka’s Man in Black. In 2006, Ms. Clark performed in Poland as part of the International Contemporary Dance Festival, and in 2010 toured with BalletMet to perform in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. Also In 2010, Ms. Clark was awarded the Violetta Boft Memorial Award in recognition of personal achievements in and dedication to the world of dance. In addition to onstage efforts, in 2007 she began to take on the duties of an Assistant Ballet Mistress for BalletMet. Throughout the rest of her career, she assisted with the staging and rehearsing of company productions including work on Jimmy Orrante’s The Great Gatsby, James Kudelka’s Man in Black, Gerard Charles’ The Nutcracker and others. In 2013, she assisted James Kudelka as he created his world premiere Rite of Spring for the BalletMet Company.

Hisham Omardien
Rehearsal Director, BalletMet 2 Associate Director
A native of Worcester, outside of Cape Town in South Africa, Hisham Omardien has been a recognized member of the artistic community in Columbus Ohio (USA), for over two decades. Starting his training at the Julia Hickman Academy of Dance, taking Ballet as a subject at Worcester Secondary School and training with Dudley Tomlinson at the University of Cape Town’s Ballet School, Omardien danced with both CAPAB Ballet, the now Cape Town City Ballet and former State Theatre Ballet before joining BalletMet in 2000. A two-time recipient of the prestigious South African Balletomanes Award, Omardien also earned the 2004’s Violetta Boft Memorial Award. His favorite performance roles were the lead in George Balanchine’s Who Cares?, the title role in David Nixon’s Dracula, the role of Armand in Veronica Paeper’s Camille, Don José in her Carmen, dancing in Dwight Roden’s Carmina Burana, the Man in Stanton Welch’s Maninyas, the Pas de Deux Couple in James Kudelka’s There Below and his Gazebo Dances. Gazebo Dances received rave reviews from New York critics when BalletMet was invited to perform at the Joyce Theatre. After retiring from dance, Omardien went on to become Ballet Master with BalletMet, working with renowned choreographers from around the world. Omardien is married to fellow retired company dancer and now Rehearsal Director of BalletMet, Olivia Clark, with whom he is raising daughter Safiyyah and son Zayn. When he’s not engaged with the local artistic community on a project basis or helping as Movement Coach and Choreographer at Columbus City Schools, Omardien and his family proudly operate Hisham’s Food, a food truck featuring a unique and artistic blend of South African, Indian and American cuisines. Omardien is the Rehearsal Director for BalletMet for their 2024/2025 season.
