Sergei Prokofiev was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor who began writing piano pieces at age five and wrote an opera at age nine. As the creator of acknowledged masterpieces across numerous music genres, he is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century. He wrote the score for Romeo and Juliet in 1936.
