Kamilah Brown (viola) is an avid performer and lover of all things creative. At Florida International University, she is completing her masters with Michael Klotz after graduating from undergraduate at Oberlin Conservatory. Throughout her college career, she has sat principle viola of the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra, Oberlin’s Contemporary Music Ensemble, and Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, in addition to researching music history as an Oberlin College Research Fellow. She has also participated in masterclasses with Jessie Montgomery, Tai Murray, Lembi Veskiments, and Lynne Ramsey. Brown is deeply passionate about increasing access to classical music for Black musicians in addition to performing and researching Black composers. Additionally, she has developed a love of improvisation, jazz, and new music, which she frequently studies and performs. Outside of music, Brown is a dance minor and loves to watch YouTube videos about niche science topics.
