Luis Bernardo Castro is a Venezuelan cellist and arts administrator whose career began at age four within the renowned "El Sistema" program. Currently completing a Doctorate in Musical Arts at Louisiana State University, he serves as the Chamber Music Coordinator for the LSU String Department. A distinguished performer, Luis won the Soloist Concerto Competition in 2023, and has worked under the batons of Gustavo Dudamel or Sir Simon Rattle, and recently performed with the Orchestra of the Americas alongside Yo-Yo Ma.
His current orchestral engagements include positions with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Principal for the MS Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra. Recognized for his technical excellence, he was Assistant Principal for Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, a Britten Pears Artist in the UK, a prizewinner of the Samnium International Competition in Italy, and received an Honorable Mention at the Mostly Modern Festival soloist competition in the US. Beyond the stage, Luis is the Co-Founder and CEO of Ébano Musical C.A in Venezuela.
