Kaylin Chung, 20, is a junior at Northwestern University, where she studies violin under Gerardo Ribeiro. She began playing the violin at age eight, and she previously studied with Elizabeth Faidley in New York City. Among her accomplishments, Chung placed as runner-up in the MTNA Performance Senior Level Competition for New Jersey, placed as the top scholarship winner at the National Arts Competition and New York Young Virtuoso Competition in 2022, and was most recently a finalist for the MCW 2025 Instrumental Competition in Chicago. She has also had the honor of performing in master classes with renowned violinists such as Rachel Barton Pine and Stefan Jackiw.
Chung has been involved in both orchestral and chamber music throughout her musical career. She currently performs as an Associate Member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In high school, she played with the Veritas Youth Orchestra, a nonprofit based in New Jersey, serving as concertmaster in her junior and senior years. During this time, she performed as a soloist in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D major (2020) and Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy (2022).
For the past four summers, Chung has attended the Meadowmount School of Music, where she developed a deeper appreciation for chamber music and studied works such as Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8, Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, and Smetana’s String Quartet No. 2 in D minor. She had the privilege of receiving guidance and coaching from esteemed faculty, including Steven Rochen, Ivan Zenaty, and Paul Kantor.
In addition to her performance work, Chung is committed to music education and community engagement. She is a full-time volunteer with AMASE Northwestern, a program that provides weekly music lessons for students with disabilities. She is also pursuing a minor in Legal Studies at Northwestern University.
