Jason Donnelly, a native of Oviedo, FL, is currently working towards a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trombone Performance from the University of Florida, studying under Dr. Jemmie Robertson. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Euphonium Performance from the University of Miami and a Master of Music in Bass Trombone and Euphonium Performance from Indiana University, where he served as Associate Instructor of Trombone and was awarded a Performance Certificate for an outstanding degree recital. Presently, he holds the position of Bass Trombone in The Gainesville Orchestra and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra; he previously held the same chair with the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. In addition to orchestral playing, his artistic interests include contemporary music as well as transcribing works by both canonized and lesser-known composers to create new solo and chamber literature. He has been a featured soloist with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony, Frost Symphony Orchestra, Brass Band of Central Florida, Blue Lake Festival Band, and the Indiana University Wind Ensemble.
Jason’s success on both trombone and euphonium on the international competition stage is unprecedented; he has been awarded 1st prizes at the Donald Yaxley Bass Trombone Competition, Leonard Falcone Euphonium Artist Competition, the IET Festival Artist Solo Contest, and the New Zealand International Brass Competition, in addition to 2nd place in the Rich Matteson Jazz Competition and 3rd in the Jefferson Symphony Young Artist Competition. He has performed with many professional groups including both the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops, Utah Symphony, Naples Philharmonic, Florida Grand Opera, Sarasota Orchestra, Ocala Symphony, among others. Jason is a laureate of the YoungArts program and was also named a Yamaha Young Performing Artist in 2020. He has performed solo recitals at colleges and universities across the US as well as events hosted by the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA) and the United States Army Band.
