Xinchen (Jessica) Zhang is an 18-year-old cellist currently studying at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Professor Yeesun Kim. She began her cello studies at the age of six with Ms. Bingxin Li. In 2016, she was admitted to the Music Middle School Affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Professor Xinhua Ma. In 2017, Jessica won First Prize in the Shanghai Music Competition and was subsequently invited to the Vienna International Music Festival. There, she earned Second Prize in Category IV of the cello division at the 3rd New Cosmos International Music Competition. In 2018, Jessica began a new chapter in her musical journey at the Colburn School, studying under Professor Clive Greensmith and Dr. Stello Cho. During her time at Colburn, she was awarded both the Zipper Scholarship and the Greendale Scholarship. She is also a First Prize winner of the 2023 Redlands Bowl Young Artist Concerto Competition. As one of four finalists, she performed with the Santa Monica Orchestra under the direction of conductor Roger Kalia at the Redlands Bowl. Jessica has participated in numerous solo masterclasses with renowned artists, including Narek Hakhnazaryan, Francis Gouton, Thomas Mesa, and Julie Albers. In addition to her solo work, she is active in ensembles. She served as principal cellist at the Colburn Youth Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. She was also featured in the 2024 Colburn Community School Winter Honors Recital with her piano trio, where they performed the first movement of Brahms's Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major in Colburn’s Zipper Hall.
