Caroline Ulrich

Principal flutist of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Caroline Ulrich. Ulrich enjoys an extensive orchestral performing career in the southeast. She has been featured soloists with the GSO numerous times performing the works of Mozart, JS Bach, CPE Bach, Lucas Foss and Jacques Ibert. Together with pianist Lillian Buss Pearson, Caroline has performed numerous recitals. The collaboration began over 40 yeas ago and is going strong! She also enjoys playing Broadway shows at the Peace Center. Among her favorites are Evita, Wicked, Ragtime,  Peter Pan, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Sound of Music.

Dr. Ulrich is on the faculty of Furman University. Previously she was flute instructor at the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Luther College, and Clemson University. She holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music in Performance from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Florida State Universtiy. She studied with Charles DeLaney, Felix Skowronek, and Alexander Murray.

Along with Carla Copeland Burns, Erinn Frechette, and Amy Orsinger Whitehouse, Caroline Ulrich is a founding member of FLUTE4. The group champions new works for flute quarter and performs throughout the Southeast and Midwest. 

Some interesting facts about Caroline are that she was born in Blackpool, England, boyhood home of Ian Anderson, flutist and lead vocalist of the rock group Jethro Tull. She enjoys hiking, cooking and eating, and flower gardening.
