“The musicians' palpable joy and the audience's enthusiastic response created a magical atmosphere, proving that music's power to transcend genres and cultural boundaries can create truly unforgettable moments.”
From a 2025 Greenville Symphony concert attendee survey

That beautifully sums up what I believe is the very heart of our American Season. American music is not confined to a single genre or tradition — it’s a vibrant tapestry that reflects who we are as a people: varied, innovative, and united by shared experience. This year, our concerts will celebrate the many voices and stories that form the American sound.

One of my most anticipated moments is a world premiere inspired by an extraordinary Upstate heroine of the American Revolution: Dicey Langston. Her courage and grit come to life through a new work by composer Peter B. Kay and writer Mark Waldrop, created in partnership with a remarkable group of young women from Travelers Rest, led by arts educator Kristin LaRoy. These students are stepping into the role of artistic partners of the Greenville Symphony — a collaboration made possible by support from the SC 250 Commission and Abacus. I can’t wait for you to meet them and experience the piece they helped bring to life.

Beyond the premieres and new works punctuating this season, we’re expanding opportunities for discovery and dialogue. This spring, we’ll launch a free panel discussion series exploring the music, composers, and cultural context of the American Season. It’s our gift to curious listeners who want to go deeper — details will be on our website in early 2026.

And because building the future of American music means investing in its next generation, we’re thrilled to announce a matching gift campaign launching in November 2025, thanks to a generous anonymous donor. Every contribution will support young and emerging artists across the Upstate and beyond, helping them gain visibility and professional experience. What could be more American than ensuring every voice has the chance to be heard?

Music resonates most deeply when we connect the artist’s story with the story told on stage. In the same way, the Greenville Symphony’s story is interwoven with yours. Your generosity makes possible so much: discounted tickets for students and teachers, interactive classroom programs for more than 25,000 children, and the fair compensation our musicians deserve to continue bringing us joy after joy.

This season, I invite you to listen not only for the melodies and harmonies, but for the spirit of America in all its colors and textures. Together, let’s celebrate the music, the stories, and the people who make them possible.

“With gratitude,
