Sheridan Seyfried (b. 1984, Philadelphia)

The music of Sheridan Seyfried resonates with music lovers around the globe today. His style is melodic and accessible, rhythmic driving at times, soulful at others. His influences are wide-ranging and include music by Beethoven and Dvořák as well as genres including Celtic and American folk, blues, bluegrass, and even New Age. Seyfried’s music has been heard in venues such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and the Liszt Academy in Budapest, and at major music festivals, including Chamber Music Northwest (OR) and Music from Angel Fire (NM).

Seyfried enjoys special relationships with each of the members of Trio Barclay. In 2013, he wrote a romantically hued Violin Concerto for Dennis Kim, who premiered it with the Tampere Philharmonic (Finland). The performance brought a normally reserved audience to its feet. It's since been performed by the Lebanese Philharmonic. Kim has also championed Seyfried’s lively and expressive Sextet for clarinet, piano and strings (which was composed for celebrated clarinetist David Shifrin).

Cellist Jonah Kim has been performing pieces by Seyfried for almost two decades now, and most recently has commissioned several works for cello and piano: Serenade (2018), Ballade (2021), and a brand-new work which premieres in October of 2022. Seyfried is also currently writing a three-movement solo piano sonata for Sean Kennard.

Seyfried’s Double Violin Concerto, premiered by violinist brothers Nikki and Timmy Chooi, is infused with bluegrass, and has been broadcast nationally on APM's Performance Today. His marimba and violin duet, Blues Train (2015), his most-performed work, was written for ViMaDeAn Duo (Denis Petrunin and Anastasia Petrunina), an ensemble that has also just commissioned a new work from him.

A native of Philadelphia, PA, Seyfried grew up playing violin in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. He continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he received the Alfredo Casella Award for excellence in composition upon his graduation. His major mentors have included Edward Aldwell, Richard Danielpour, James Grant, and Nils Vigeland. Seyfried currently resides outside Philadelphia where he is active as a church music director and music educator.
