Enriching the medium as America’s first all female mariachi ensemble, Reyna de Los Angeles® bring sensitivity, beauty, warmth and vivacious spirit to the historic art of mariachi.
Reyna has blazed the trail for female mariachi musicians. In a musical landscape where songs are often written by men, from male perspectives, Reyna has created its own history. As such, in 2018 Smithsonian Folkways selected Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles® as the latest artist in its Traditions Series of Latino music albums, produced with support from the Smithsonian Latino Center.
Under the leadership of ten-time Grammy nominee and founder of the ensemble, Maestro Jose Hernandez, Reyna was the first female Mariachi to break out of local level recognition to international stardom with original compositions, arrangements and interpretations of mariachi classics.
Noteworthy accomplishments include playing private concerts for superstars such as George Harrison, John Travolta, debuting at the Hollywood bowl, and performing with the "Queen of the Mariachi," Aida Cuevas. Perhaps their greatest career highlight was performing at The White House for President Obama's Cinco De Mayo celebration.
As performers, their passionate vocals, ability to engage the audience and stellar musicality is second to none, leading to both an American and a Latin Grammy nomination.
Their internationally distributed albums include: Solo Tuya, El Mejor Mariachi Femenino del Mundo, Compañeras, Entre Mariachiy Corazón, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles, and their most recent album ¡Que Vivan Las Mujeres!
