Monique L’Heureux is an award-winning lighting designer who has collaborated on many productions with Artistic Director/Producer Molly Lynch. At Irvine Barclay Theatre, these include the National Choreographers Initiative for 13 years, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and multiple collaborations with Ballet Pacifica.
Past work includes: Ma Cong’s French Twist, which originated at NCI and went on to be performed and toured by Smuin Ballet; 10 seasons with Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet, including performances at the Ailey Center and Dance Theatre Workshop in New York; lighting director for the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, and World Music for the Hollywood Bowl summer season; two seasons of Fall for Dance at Segerstrom Center for the Arts (Charles Moulton’s Ball Passing piece and backhausdance’s eXit); Irvine Barclay Theatre's Semana Flamenka featuring Yaelisa; Anjani Ambegaokar’s Made in Mumbai at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts; five seasons with Barak Ballet, including performances at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and The Broad Stage (as well as the company’s logo design); blue13’s Bollywood Delicious and Khel; The Motion Picture & Television Fund event featuring Hugh Jackman, Chita Rivera, Dick van Dyke, Shirley MacLaine, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, among others; and Jamie Nichols’ Celebrate Dance.
She has taught for the dance departments at Loyola Marymount University and Moorpark College and the theatre department at El Camino College. She is the recipient of four Lester Horton Dance Awards. She is a member of United Scenic Artists, and is currently the Western Region Business Representative for the union representing live performance designers.
Monique is also an artist and an award-winning photographer, and has been shown in many galleries and public spaces, including a permanent installation in Glendale Adventist Hospital.
