New York City Ballet Principal
Tiler Peck was born in Bakersfield, CA. She began her dance training at the age of two at her mother’s dance studio, Bakersfield Dance Company. At the age of seven, she began studying privately with former Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Alla Khaniashvili in Hollywood. At the age of 11 she began studying at Conjunctive Point in Culver City, CA, with former New York City Ballet dancers Colleen and Patricia Neary.
During this time, she also studied with former NYCB principal Yvonne Mounsey at Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica. At the age of 12, Ms. Peck entered the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet. In September 2004, Ms. Peck became an apprentice with New York City Ballet. In February 2005 she joined the Company as a member of the corps de ballet. She was promoted to soloist in December 2006 and principal dancer in October 2009.
Peck has performed featured roles in George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Apollo (Terpsichore), Coppélia (Swanilda), Divertimento No. 15, "Emeralds" from Jewels, George Balanchine's The Nutcracker (Sugarplum Fairy, Dewdrop, Marzipan, Dolls), Raymonda Variations, Serenade, Sonatine, Swan Lake, Symphony in C (First Movement, Fourth Movement), Tarantella, Tschaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 2, Tschaikovsky Suite No. 3 (Theme and Variations), in August Bournonville’s La Sylphide (The Sylph); in William Forsythe’s Herman Schmerman; in Peter Martin’s Fearful Symmetries, Naïve and Sentimental Music, Not My Girl, Romeo + Juliet (Juliet), The Sleeping Beauty (Aurora, Emerald, Princess Florine), Swan Lake (Odette/Odile, Pas de Quartre); in Justin Peck’s Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes, Year of the Rabbit; in Jerome Robbins’ 2 & 3 Part Inventions; among many others.
Peck has originated featured roles in Melissa Barak’s A Simple Symphony; in Peter Martins’ Bal de Couture, The Red Violin; in Wayne McGregor’s Outlier; in Benjamin Millipied’s Quasi Una Fantasia; in Justin Peck’s Copland Dance Episodes, Everywhere We Go; in Angelin Prejocaj’s Spectral Evidence; in Alexei Ratmansky’s Odesa, Pictures at an Exhibition; in Liam Scarlett’s Funérailles; in Myles Thatcher’s Polaris; in Peter Walker’s dance odyssey, in Christopher Wheeldon’s American Rhapsody, Les Carillons, A Place for U; among many others.
Ms. Peck played the title role in the 2014 Kennedy Center production of the musical Little Dancer. On Broadway, she has performed in On the Town (Ivy) and in Meredith Willson's The Music Man. Ms. Peck's film credits include Ballet 422 (2014), Hulu’s Ballet Now (2018), NY EXPORT: OPUS JAZZ (2010), A Time for Dancing (2000), Geppetto (2000), and Donnie Darko (2001).
In 2016, Ms. Peck received a Dance Magazine Award, which recognizes artists who’ve made outstanding contributions to the dance field. Ms. Peck is a 2004 recipient of the Princess Grace Foundation — USA Dance Fellowship. In 2013, she received the Princess Grace Statue Award, given to distinguished previous Princess Grace Award winners. She was a 2019 Bessie Award nominee for Outstanding Performer.
