Shelly Berg
Music Director

Shelly Berg, a Steinway piano artist and multi-Grammy-nominated arranger/producer, released his latest album, Alegría, in July 2024 with bassist Carlitos Del Puerto and drummer Dafnis Prieto (ArtistShare). Described as “buoyant joy” (JazzViews.net) and “an instant jazz piano trio classic” (Modern Drummer), it features his Grammy-nominated composition “At Last.”

Berg’s previous album, Gershwin Reimagined, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, was praised for its fresh take on Gershwin’s music. The All Music Guide calls Berg “one of the finest pianists in modern mainstream jazz.” His acclaimed recordings include The Deep (Chesky), The Nearness of You (Arbors), and Blackbird (Concord), which hit No. 1 on U.S. jazz radio.

A celebrated arranger, Berg earned Grammy nominations for his work with Clint Holmes, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gloria Estefan, and Lorraine Feather. He has collaborated with jazz greats like Ray Brown, Arturo Sandoval, and Kurt Elling and orchestrated for Chicago, Carole King, and Mariah Carey.

Dean of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Berg is also artistic director of The Jazz Cruise and Irvine Barclay Theatre’s The Barclay Jazz &  Beyond Orchestra.
