The Sanctuary Choir, directed by Jack A. Pott, is composed of musicians who, through their talent and their spirits, provide musical leadership for worship services and community events. In recent years the choir has presented such major works as the Fauré Requiem, Howells Requiem, Duruflé Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem and Solemn Vespers, Vivaldi Gloria, J.S. Bach’s Magnificat and Jesu, meine Freude, and the Hartford premiers of René Clausen’s A New Creation, Scott Perkins’ A New England Requiem, and Paul Mealor’s Stabat Mater. Additionally, the choir has partnered with area churches and arts organizations to present major works such as Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, the Duruflé Requiem with CONCORA and the New Haven Symphony, and “The Best of the Duke Ellington Sacred Concerts” with a full stage band, tap dancer, soloists and singers from three historically black churches in Hartford. Partnerships with local congregations have included the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Congregation Beth Israel, Faith Congregational Church, and Immanuel Congregational Church. The choir is honored to have performed with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra since 2013 as a regular part of their Celebrate America summer concert at the Talcott Mountain Music Festival in Simsbury, CT. The AHCC Sanctuary Choir leads the annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival – a musical and dramatic celebration of Epiphany, and has performed for community events, including The Hartford Prayer Breakfast, “Hartford Cares” Concert, and the Pivotal Hartford Art Exhibit at the Bushnell Performing Arts Center. The choir has also been honored to sing for special events and observances of the State Senate and House of Representatives at the Capitol Building.
