Described as a “stylish clarinetist” by The New York Times, Korean-American clarinetist Paul Wonjin Cho joined the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, as a bass and 3rd clarinetist in 2020. In addition to playing with the HSO, Cho joined the Cleveland Orchestra in its 2022 European tour. He continues to perform with them to this day. Cho served as a guest principal clarinetist with Link Up Orchestra of Carnegie Hall, American, Harrisburg, New Haven, and Vermont Symphony Orchestras. He also performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Singapore Symphony, and at the Tanglewood Music Center. For the ‘22-’23 season, Cho is collaborating with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra as the acting principal and has been a principal clarinetist for Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra since 2016. Upon completing the fellowship program, Ensemble Connect, back in 2010, Cho became a core member of Decoda. He gave numerous performances from esteemed concert venues like Carnegie Hall to unique locales like the Sing Sing Correctional Facility. His performances were not limited to the U.S., but extended to South Korea and Japan, trying to reach out to a vast and diverse audience. Cho has taught at the Juilliard School MAP program, Manhattan School of Music, New York University, University of Kentucky, Skidmore College, and Vassar College and is currently a faculty member at the Bloomingdale School of Music and Horace Mann School. Cho is a proud graduate of Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School in Seoul, Korea. He holds degrees from the Korean National University of Arts, Seoul National University, University of Southern California, and Yale School of Music. While attending these institutions as a student, Cho studied with Dong-Jin Kim, Yehuda Gilad, and David Shifrin respectively. Cho is also a clarinetist at Redeemer Presbyterian Church and a F. A. Uebel artist.
