Critically acclaimed pianist Jie Chen is a musician who combines her artistic vocation with devotion to improving the lives of others. She graduated summa cum laude from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge. She is the winner of eleven prestigious international prizes including the Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition in Israel, the Van Cliburn Competition in the U.S.A., and the Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition in Spain.
Chen debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Maestro Wolfgang Sawallisch at age 15 and went on concertizing for over 20 years across the globe, with many prestigious orchestras and in solo performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Louvre in Paris, and many other major venues throughout Europe, North America and Asia.
A visionary arts administrator, she was also the founding dean of the inaugural music department at the University of Shanghai Science and Technology. She implemented innovative curricula combining technology teaching with music practice. A keen believer that music is the universal language of the soul, Chen seeks to transcend boundaries and promote better understanding across differences through dialogues in arts and culture.
