JAROSLAW LIS earned his Master of Music degree summa cum laude from the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, Poland, where he was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Culture. As the youngest member of Sinfonia Varsovia, he collaborated with renowned musicians such as Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Emmanuel Krivine, and recorded for Denon and Aperto labels. He furthered his studies at the Yale School of Music, obtaining both an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music degree. Lis has trained under esteemed instructors such as Jan Jakuc, Wojciech Malinski, Zofia Kuberska, Julia Jakimowicz, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Syoko Aki, and the Tokyo String Quartet, and was a scholarship student of Nathan Milstein in Zurich, Switzerland. As a member of the Assai and Essex Quartets, Lis achieved Second Prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition with the Assai Quartet, and recorded with the quartet and Ahmad Jamal on Roesch Records. His teaching experience includes positions at the Madeline Island Music Camp, the Palisade Arts Festival, and the Friends of Music Camp in South Korea. He also served as the director of the Music Adventure Camp at Tenuta di Spannocchia in Tuscany. Currently, Lis is the assistant principal second violin of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and a violinist with the Avery Ensemble. He is the chamber music director of the Trentino Music Festival in Italy and the Music Director of the Doctors’ Orchestra. Additionally, he teaches violin and viola at Connecticut College.
