Amy Carty began her harp studies at the age of ten and is currently studying with Elzbieta Szmyt, Chair of the Harp Department at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. This is Amy’s fifth year participating in the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra, being principal harpist the last two years. She is also currently the principal harpist for the University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra. Amy has performed with UT Chamber Orchestra, UT Wind Ensemble, Scruffy City Orchestra, ETSBOA All State East Senior Clinic, the WordPlayers' production of The Fantasticks, Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, including performances of The Nutcracker. Amy is also a solo performer and has played at dozens of venues across East Tennessee, including being a preferred vender for the Tennessean Hotel. Upon graduating from Family Christian Academy, Amy plans to study harp performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, teach harp at a collegiate level, and be an orchestral harpist.
