Jayanth Suthan
Violin
Jay Suthan is a 16-year-old junior from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He made his solo debut at the age of eleven as the winner of the String Academy of Wisconsin Concerto Competition. In 2019, he was a winner of the Bach Double competition and performed with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Jay was a runner-up of the MYSO Metropolitan Symphony Concerto Competition in 2021. He was an honorable mention in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Audrey G. Baird Stars of Tomorrow Competition in both 2023 and 2024 and as a result, performed "side-by-side" with the Milwaukee Symphony. Jay was the winner of the Wisconsin Philharmonic’s Shining Stars competition in both 2022 and 2023, and was a recipient of a WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Exemplary Performance award in the same years.
 
Jay has played in various MYSO orchestras for six years and is currently a concertmaster of the Senior Symphony and the MYSO Chamber Orchestra.

 

Jay started violin lessons at the age of five with David Anderson of the String Academy of Wisconsin and continued his studies there with Darcy Drexler. Currently he studies violin with Pamela Simmons and has taken masterclasses with Mimi Zwieg, Professor of Violin, Indiana University.
