Shonda C. Devine

Shonda C. Devine is a native of Queens, NY, but fondly calls Atlanta, GA home. A regular performer, her full lyric soprano voice has a “rich and velvet-like quality.” She is well acquainted with classical repertoire, performs as a recitalist and has appeared in oratorio and operatic roles such as Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly and the title role Suor Angelica in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, Gertrude in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Micaela in Carmen, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Roselinde in scenes from Die Fledermaus, and Bess and Serena in scenes from Porgy and Bess. Dr. Devine has appeared as a soloist in W.A. Mozart’s Solemn Vespers, Rutter’s Gloria, Bach’s Magnificat, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Dr. Devine is a professor at Alabama A&M University, where she serves as director of the voice department. She was the music director for Alabama A&M’s recent production of The Wiz. Dr. Devine is also the director of Alabama A&M’s newly minted touring ensemble, “The Bulldog Beat”. This elite ensemble is the touring group which accompanies President Daniel Wims. She is a graduate of Alabama A&M University where she holds a bachelor’s degree in music for Vocal Performance. She also serves actively as a presenter, facilitator and clinician on various National platforms. Dr. Devine attended the University of North Carolina Greensboro where she earned a Master of Music degree in Performance-Voice and is a graduate of the Catholic University of America, where she received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Pedagogy.
