Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
Symphony No. 31 in D Major, "Paris"
Composed: 1778
Premiered: 1778, Paris
Duration: 17 minutes

Composed in 1778 when he was just 22 years old, Mozart's "Paris" Symphony was the product of a trip to the French capital in which he was seeking out new work opportunities. The piece made its public debut six days after its original premiere during a private party hosted by Count Karl Heinrich Joseph von Sickingen, a platinum chemist and the ambassador of the Electorate of the Palatinate.

The "Paris" Symphony marks the first time Mozart wrote for a larger orchestra, and it also was his first symphony to use clarinets.
