Overture & “Chantons sur la musette” from Hippolyte et Aricie

Rameau became the leading French composer of his era, particularly in the field of dramatic music. His numerous theatrical works, frequently combining elements of opera and ballet, are celebrated above all for their abundant melody and colourful, inventive orchestration. The tragic opera Hippolyte et Aricie premiered in Paris in 1733.
