Kip Johnson is a bass-baritone from Monterey, California, currently in his fourth year at the Fountain School of Performing Arts studying Composition with Jared Miller. In Halifax, Kip is a member and choral scholar of the King’s College Chapel Choir, as well as being a choral scholar with the Cathedral Church of All Saints. He also performs with various folk ensembles in the city, playing guitar, banjo, mandolin, and low whistle, with a focus on the music of the northern Appalachian mountains. Notable performances Kip has sung in include the Dalhousie Opera’s 2020 production of James Rolf’s Aeneas and Dido, where he played the title role of Aeneas; a 2019 performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the King’s College Chapel Choir; and a section of Nick Veltmeyer’s 2021 production Beginning. Compositions by Kip include Simulacrum for solo piano, and From Inside for four singers and instrumentalists.
