Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Kate Houston began her training at Halifax Dance while attending programs at Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, The National Ballet School, L’ecole supérieure de ballet du Québec, and Arts Umbrella. In 2008, she was invited to compete in the second annual Beijing International Ballet Invitational. Kate completed her post-secondary training at L’école supérieure de ballet du Québec while dancing for Le Jeune Ballet du Québec. She was awarded the L’Agora de la Danse award upon graduation. Kate was selected to be part of the Banff Summer Dance Company and Springboard Danse Montreal. Kate has since danced for MOVE: the company, Cadence Contemporary Ballet, Alysa Pires Dance Projects, Tyler Angell, and Lydia Zimmer + Dancers. From 2014 to 2016, Kate was a full-time faculty member at Toronto’s School of Cadence Ballet. Since 2017, she has been the Program Director at Halifax Dance. As a former cast member of The Nutcracker, she is thrilled to be a part of the production once again.
